The Company

You’ll join a fast-scaling, product-first technology company building core backend infrastructure for complex, high-stakes enterprise environments. Following a major Series A raise, the company is now focused on building a small, elite engineering team to own the most critical systems end-to-end.

The Role

We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale the core systems that power the platform. You’ll be responsible for high-performance APIs, data pipelines, distributed systems, and the reliability of production services handling sensitive data at scale.

You’ll work closely with founders, product leaders, and applied ML engineers, helping translate complex requirements into robust, secure backend architecture. This is a hands-on role with real ownership and influence over technical direction.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Designing and owning scalable backend services and APIs in production.
• Building and optimising data pipelines handling large, complex datasets.
• Architecting systems for reliability, performance, and low latency.
• Working with distributed systems, message brokers, and async task queues.
• Scaling and tuning PostgreSQL databases for high-throughput workloads.
• Implementing caching strategies using Redis and similar technologies.
• Partnering with ML engineers to productionise models and workflows.
• Leading technical design discussions and mentoring other engineers.
• Improving observability, monitoring, and incident response.

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems.
• Expert-level Python experience (FastAPI strongly preferred).
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, including performance tuning and scaling.
• Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on experience with Celery or equivalent task queues.
• Strong experience with Redis for caching and background processing.
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP acceptable).
• Solid understanding of security, authentication, and data protection.
• Experience operating systems in regulated or high-trust environments.
• Comfortable owning systems end-to-end, not just writing code.
